Genre: Contemporary Romance

A defensive end for the San Francisco Sabers, Flynn Cassidy is used to being in the spotlight—he just doesn’t enjoy it. But if getting in front of the cameras will help his new restaurant succeed, he’s willing. Now if he could just meet a woman who loved him and not his fame…

After her divorce, Amelia Lawrence is thrilled to start over as head chef at Ninety-Two. It’s just the opportunity she needs to heat up her career—if only she wasn’t wildly attracted to her sexy new boss. Their chemistry might be sizzling hot, but Amelia has no intention of being burned again.

Flynn can’t get enough of Amelia, and Amelia loves every second she spends with the tough yet tender Flynn. But trust is a hard-fought battle for both. Breaking the rules of contact and surrendering to their passion was the easy part. Are they willing to risk their hearts to win at the game of love?

This is the first Jaci Burton novel that I’ve read and I can promise it won’t be the last. If you’re looking for a sweet and steamy read then I highly recommend this book. I’ve always been partial to books that bring another element to the plot, something that makes me hunger for more and this delicious book had it all.

Rules of Contact is the story of the multi-talented Flynn Cassidy, football player by day and restaurant owner by night. Flynn is undoubtedly busy but he has no worries with his restaurant 92 being in the very capable hands of chef Amelia Lawrence.  Amelia is starting over in California after a divorce that’s left a bad taste in her mouth. Working at 92 is a dream for Amelia, Flynn has giver her full control of the kitchen so she can create her wonderful mouth-watering dishes. While grateful for her position in Flynn’s restaurant, Amelia really shows her spark and back bone when people try to push her around. This feisty chef is here to show them she isn’t to be trifled with. Flynn and Amelia have worked together meticulously to develop the perfect menu incorporating the taste of both chef and football player but what has cooked up even hotter is the chemistry between the two. I’m so corny, yes I know. But it’s true so don’t shoot the messenger.

Flynn is actively looking for someone to settle down with but along the way he’s lost his sense of whom to trust, with all the women just wanting to be in the spotlight instead of being with him, I think at this point we can’t really blame him. Amelia was never looking for romance but what we want and what we get are two different things. Amelia and Flynn come together beautifully in this story about food, football and love. This novel was hot and steamy and all the other words to describe sex so decadent it should be served on a platter ! To much? Well if it was I’m not sorry because it was muy caliente!

The author really was able to capture the feelings of vulnerability after divorce and a great sense of the mistrust one builds up after being burned. Ohhhh and the food that was described in this book left me hungry and a couple of pounds heavier I swear. If all the novels by Ms. Burton are this delicious then I’m in for them all !! I’ve rated this novel 4 stars.

MAKING CHRISTMAS
A Novella
Laura Chapman
Releasing Nov 8th, 2016
While settling into a new career in a new community, Ivy is determined not to let the
holiday season pass her by. Enter the grownup advent calendar: twenty-four days
of festivities to celebrate Christmas. What begins as a bit of fun turns into a
mission to spread cheer when she meets Everett. After learning about his bad
Christmas attitude, she invites him to join her quest. Despite his initial
reservations, Everett quickly gets caught up in the spirit of the calendar. But
when new feelings surface and are impossible to ignore, Everett’s inner
curmudgeon threatens to put a damper on the whole experience.
Review:
*Sigh*….. Laura Chapman did it again.. She wrapped me up in a warm blanket of words and feelings taking me on a journey I didn’t want to end. Making Christmas was able to embody the Christmas spirit with laughter, adventure and love.
Ivy is such a fun character to read. She really puts you in the Christmas spirit with her brave and bold plan to enjoy her holiday season. When Ivy decided to invite good-looking yet slightly bah humbug acting Everett to join her in her Christmas plan the story really  took an adventurous turn that had me smiling page to page. Everett never really stood a chance against charismatic Ivy, but his past definitely affects his present. Will Everett let it affect his future with Ivy?  Though this novella may be short it is definitely sweet and without a doubt one of my favorite Christmas books that I’ve read to date. With a 5 star rating I highly recommend diving into this book and meeting Ivy and Everett and filling your soul with a little Christmas spirit in time for the holiday season.
Excerpt:

From Making Christmas

“About my project,” she begins. “I’ve always loved the holiday season. Everything from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve then Christmas and New Year’s Eve—it’s a magical time. Plus, I was born on Christmas, so the holidays are extra special. But the past few years I’ve been so busy with work and . . . stuff . . . that I kind of lost track of them. It was always more important to focus on getting the next big ad campaign out than stopping to smell the sugar plums.”

“Ad campaigns? You’re in advertising?”

“No—not anymore.” She taps her fingers on the edge of the counter. “I left my old agency earlier this year to start an Internet-based company with my friend. We moved to Lincoln in October because it’s a welcoming place for startups. Anyways, the past few years the holidays have gone by in a hazy, chaotic blur. I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again this year. I’m going to stop and smell those sugar plums.”

I almost ask what sugar plums smell like but go with a question that makes more sense. “So you’re celebrating the holidays with a Christmas coffee?”

“Today,” she agrees. “Then tomorrow I’ll have another festive activity waiting for me.”

She digs into her purse and removes a piece of red card stock. It’s covered with tiny green paper pockets, each neatly printed with a number counting up to twenty-four. Twenty-four.

“It looks like an advent calendar.” Just like the ones my grandma gave my sister and me every Christmas until we graduated college.

Her eyes light up. “That’s exactly what it is. This is my grown-up advent calendar. I saw one on Pinterest—though, they had twenty-four bottles of wine lined up in a rack to drink every day of December leading up to Christmas. I like wine, but I’m not a big fan of all the varieties, which would defeat the purpose of drinking twenty-four different wines. It also didn’t seem like the best way to celebrate the season. Do you connect binge-drinking wine with Christmas?”

“No. But maybe some people do?”

“I suppose, which is kind of sad. But I probably shouldn’t judge what works for other people.” She shakes her head. “Anyway, over Thanksgiving I started thinking about what I wanted to do this holiday season. Books I wanted to read. Movies I wanted to watch. Experiences I wanted to have. So I made a list. Using the list, I created a calendar with each of the items reserved for a different day. I wrote everything down on different pieces of paper. I folded them up and randomly scheduled them throughout the month. That way, I’ll be surprised every day.”

“You made a random schedule? How will you know if you have time or the materials you need to do it?”

“I’ll make the time.” She turns to the counter when the barista arrives with three cups. Over her shoulder, she asks, “Do you want to try gingerbread or eggnog?”

I don’t know. “Eggnog.” I guess.

She hands me one of the cups and takes the other two. “Actually, I do know what I’ll be doing one day because I had to buy tickets. I want to see The Nutcracker—I haven’t been since I was a little girl. But everything else will be a surprise.”

I’m listening to her explanation so closely I don’t even realize we’ve stepped out of the coffee shop until the cold bites my face. She has certainly shaken up my morning routine. “Do you really think a Christmas to-do list will suddenly make the holidays better?”

“I do.” She grins when I shake my head. “Do you doubt it will?”

“I don’t know.” I lift a shoulder. “It seems like a stressful way to spend the month. And for what? An overly commercialized holiday that only racks up charges on our credit cards while people are starving and struggling in the world. All the while, people miss their deadlines and pile more work on your desk because you’re the single guy in the office and they have to get to their kids’ Christmas programs or go bake cookies at their mother-in-law’s house. Christmas was fun when we were kids, but as adults, it kind of sucks.” I shake my head again. “No offense to you and your plan, but most years I want to get through the month of December with as little fanfare as possible.”

“Interesting.” She says nothing else but studies my face again for a couple of seconds. I nearly squirm under the intensity of her gaze. “Well, I hope you enjoy the coffee. Merry Christmas.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MIDNIGHT
A Novella
Laura Chapman
Releasing Nov 8th, 2016
Romantic comedy junkie Natalie lives out those fantasies in real life three New Year’s
Eves in a row when fate throws her together with the same handsome stranger. A
heartbreaking turn of events leaves her swearing off of love, forever, and the
holidays (bah humbug). That is until the mystery man from her past reappears
years later. Over a holiday season, Natalie struggles to reconcile the
whimsical notions of her past with the practical sensibilities she has worked
so hard to develop. With the countdown to a new year looming, she must decide
whether or not she is willing to give happily ever after another shot.
Review:
What Happens At Midnight is another adorably written novella by author Laura Chapman who never fails to amaze me with her writing. Although her novels hold a love of cats, they never read the same, each holding there individuality and reading differently. I’m a fan of serendipitous moments and reading a book based off of them made my heart smile the cheesiest smile it could muster up.
Natalie wants to believe in Happily Ever After but life has shown her that it can be unpredictable at best leaving her more comfortable on her couch with her romantic movies rather than finding romance of her own. Luckily for Natalie she has a roommate who doesn’t take no for an answer and drags her along to New Years Eve celebrations causing a string of serendipitous events that will forever change Natalie and how she looks at life and love. As for our “mystery man” I’ll continue to leave him a mystery until you pick up the book for yourself but there’s no shortage of witty banter, warm feels and smiles to be had while reading about him. I give What Happens At Midnight 4 stars!

|Author Spotlight| Amanda Siegrist

When I think of an author being successful I don’t necessarily picture the New York Times Best Sellers list (which is a massive accomplishment, don’t get me wrong), what I believe to also be a huge success is the utter dedication of Indie authors. An Indie author has the heart of a warrior, continuously fighting to promote their books on their own dime and time all the while continuing to find time to write their next novel. Until recently I never really understood the struggle of the indie author and the hoops they have to jump through to get their books out into the universe, and while meeting some of these amazing humans I’ve discovered a whole new world of heroines and heroes. I’ve reviewed many of these authors books and not because they gave a new blog a chance but because this new blog wanted to help them on their journey. One of the super humans I’m speaking  of is Author Amanda Siegrist. I “met” Amanda on Goodreads group Romance Writers & Readers , from there I reviewed one of her books and just quietly read behind my screen the discussions between her and the many authors she interacted with and gained true respect for this author who always had an encouraging word to offer to other indie authors, she even saved me one day by rolling up her sleeves and tackling a Facebook issue I couldn’t solve. So without further ado let me introduce you to the real Amanda Siegrist!

About Amanda:
I love anything that has to do with romance. As long as there’s a happy ending, I’m a happy camper. I love baseball (Go Twins!) and creating awesome crafts. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, working in that field for several years before I became a stay-at-home mom. When I’m not hanging out with my wonderful family, I’m writing a sweet contemporary romance or a romantic suspense that keeps you guessing until the end.
What authors have acted as inspiration to you ?
I love to read. Like a lot! Some of my favorite authors are Linda Lael Miller, Diana Palmer, Heather Graham, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I wouldn’t necessarily say they inspired me to write, though. I found that inspiration within myself. I’ve always had the urge to write in the back of my mind, but life was too busy for me. As soon as I became a stay-at-home mom, I knew I didn’t want to go back to work in the criminal justice field. I wanted to write. I wanted to unleash that passion I kept inside for so long. I’m sooooo glad I did.
What are some of your favorite books?

So, I think I mentioned I love to read. A lot! *chuckles* And I can even re-read books like I’m watching a movie. I just love to dive back into a story I know so well and get the happy goosebumps all over again .That being said , I don’t really have a favorite book. I love reading so many books that it’s difficult to pick just one that I love. I do LOVE reading so much. If I’m not writing, then I’m reading.

What are some of the things you need around you when you write ? Coffee? Chocolate?

Great question! I don’t really need anything to write, just my lovely computer in front of me. I do tend to write a lot in the mornings,so a cup of coffee is normally next to me. Although, the darn cup gets cold sometimes because I forget it’s there I’m so immersed in my writing. I also write a lot at night.I get comfy in my seat on the couch (my spot, that everyone knows not to touch (*chuckles) and I tap away at my laptop like a madwoman. A nice lovely glass of wine goes will with that picture. But again,as long as I have my computer, I’m good to go!
sheldon.png
What are you currently working on?
My mind is constantly working, which I guess translates into me doing everything at once. Haha. I’ve decided to try NaNoWriMo for the first time ever. I know I can write 50,000 words in a month, but it is a nice way to help motivate me. I did start the second book in the series, A Lucky Town Novel, which will star Kat and Danny, but I set it aside for now because I was already 20,000 words in. I needed a new book to do a NaNoWriMo, so I’ve started the third book in the series, A McCord Family Novel, which is going to be about Deja and Emmett McCord. It’s day three and I already have close to 5,000 words done.Woo hoo! And because I can, (*chuckles*) I’m doing the last edits on a romantic suspense novel,  Sunrise Awakening, that I’m planning on re-releasing soon. Oh, and how could I forget. I just finished editing another book, you could classify it as a romantic suspense, that I plan to submit to Harlequin. I need a title, though. One of the hardest things to do. *laughs* It needs the perfect title. I guess you could say I have a lot I’m working on right now.
(Good gawd super-woman you are buuuuusy !! Remember to eat and sleep in between!!)

What is your favorite book that you’ve written?
I tend to love all my books. *laughs so hard* But let me think about it. *taps chin* I really do love One Taste of You and One Taste of Love. I just LOVE Zeke and Ben. Such great guys. They have a great friendship and they love their women so much. And they’re very protective of them. One Taste of Love is actually still on Wattpad, but I took down the other one. *crosses fingers*  I submitted that one to a few agents.
For the books I have published, I would say my favorite is Protecting You – A McCord Family Novel. It just tugs at your heartstrings and makes me wanna cry thinking about it. I never intended for it to be so sad, especially in the beginning, but that’s how the story went. Ava is such a brave, tough woman, but has to work her way through such tragedy. It was hard to show that progression. And Zane’s her perfect match. He’s struggling just as hard as her, but pushes his emotions aside to help her heal. In the end, it helps them both heal. That’s what I love about that book.
How long have you been writing?
Not that long, but it feels like a long time. I first decided to sit down and write my first book, I think, around August 2014. I wasn’t working, for less than a year, just taking care of my girls. You could call it boredom, or missing the action of not working, I don’t know. I needed something else to do. I needed a little break from motherhood from time to time. Being a stay-at-home mom, you don’t get a lot of time to yourself as you do when you’re a working mom. Maybe to some people that won’t make sense, but it’s true. I have a horrible memory. I can’t remember when I actually sat down to write. *laughs as tears stream down my face* No joke! My memory is so bad.

When I was younger, like a teenager maybe (there’s that horrible memory again), I used to write tiny little stories. I actually pulled them out a few months ago and laughed at how horrible they were. But I had so much fun writing them at the time. They were like a whole ten pages, double spaced, and actually written in first person, which I’m not a fan of. It surprised me that I did that. Maybe I’ll fix them up one of these days and make them an actual novel. They need lots of work, though! Haha.

What piece of advice would you give to aspiring writers.
This is a hard one. Maybe you’ll wonder why, but there’s so much advice out there that it can get overwhelming at times. Whose word do you listen to? Should you listen to them? What I truly believe is, people need to follow their own heart, listen to their gut, and do what they wanna do. Sure, there’s lots of rules for writing and the publishing world, but people are going against the grain all the time. There’s nothing out there that’s says you have to do what everyone else is doing. Be who you are and be confident in what you do. That can be really hard. But you’re awesome. Believe in it.

I just want to say thank you to Amanda for answering all my questions, I’m nosey what can I say!! As a surprise, Amanda has been gracious enough to give us her recipe for Grape Nut Pie !!!! Yes, you heard me right I’m sharing a recipe. Why, you ask? Well I want each author to add something a little personal to them that ties into one of their  books. Amanda wrote about her Grape Nut Pie in Trust in Love and I personally can’t wait to try it, possibly at Thanksgiving since it’s right around the corner. Did I mention this is a personal recipe of hers ? Enjoy !!
Grape Nut Pie
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of grape nut cereal
1/2 cup of water
3 eggs
3/4 cup of sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
dash of salt
3 tbls of melted butter
1 tbls of vanilla
9″ deep dish pie crust
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Put together grape nuts and warm water into a small bowl and let soak. Grab another bowl and mix together all remaining ingredients. Then add soaked grape nuts to that bowl. Put into a 9″ deep dish pie pan. Bake for 50 minutes.(Varies by how your oven works. Seriously, ovens are so finicky, they’re all not alike. *chuckles*) Do a quick check around 40 minutes to see how it’s looking. When it’s done, it should look firm on top with a golden-dark brown coloring.
So yummy! I want a piece right now.
As an added bonus I’m hosting a giveaway of Amanda’s Books, Protecting You and Trust in Love A McCord Family Series !!! YES!! 2 Books. Just click on the link below to enter. The books will be e-books.
Please take a moment to check out Amanda’s sites and books!!!

|Question|

Hey amazing peeps. So today I’ve been working on the blog and catching up on some of my favorite blog spots and it left me asking a question. There is a particular blog that I follow that is amazing, but today I noticed that every single book she reviews is either a 4.5 star or 5 stars. Here is where my questions comes in. Does a blogger lose credibility when every single review is positive? Would you want to read a review that was 3 stars or less?

Please let me know your thoughts, I’m really curious on others opinions regarding this!!

Elle !!
